Cretacolor Sketching Coal produces extra wide, square sticks of soft charcoal for sweeping, bold, black strokes, or for covering larger surface areas. They are softer and slightly waxier than compressed sticks. A wide variety of textures and effects can be achieved by smudging the pigment by hand, with a chamois, or by dissolving shavings in water.
